There’s nothing quite like being back outside, exploring the shorelines, and sharing the magic of nature with curious minds. After a season away, it felt so good to return to leading programs—this time on the stunning Olympic Peninsula. The landscapes here are wild and alive, and I couldn’t ask for a better setting to reconnect with the rhythms of tides, the joy of discovery, and the simple fun of getting your boots (or bare feet!) wet.
Our first outing at Salt Creek was the perfect way to kick things off. The tide was low, the sky was clear, and the tide pools were brimming with life. Kids and adults alike crouched over the rocky shelves at Tongue Point, delighting in the tiny ecosystems nestled between barnacle-covered stones. Crabs scuttled into crevices, sculpins darted between kelp tufts, and bright green anemones waved gently in the shallows. There were gasps, giggles, and lots of splashing—always a good sign.
Beyond the tide pool treasures, it was the energy of the group that made the day special. Watching families explore together, point things out to one another, and get excited about marine life reminded me exactly why I love this work. Whether it was spotting a well-camouflaged crab or braving the cold water for a closer look, everyone leaned in with curiosity and wonder.
Being able to share these experiences on the Olympic Peninsula, a place full of natural beauty and rich with opportunities for hands-on learning, feels like a gift. I can’t wait for more adventures ahead—and more moments of laughter, learning, and muddy hands.
Here’s to a season of discovery!
